The Belgian Centre for Cybersecurity (CCB) is warning of a new phishing attack in which criminals misuse their name and logo to trick victims. Through fake messages, people are encouraged to download a so-called security programme with the intention of stealing personal data such as passwords or banking information. Safeonweb stresses that this message does not come from the CCB, but from scammers who are after confidential information.
The CCB advises to be extremely vigilant: never click on links in suspicious messages, do not open attachments and do not download applications when prompted. If you did accidentally click on the link, do not enter any data and sever any further interaction. Immediately change passwords that may have been compromised, especially if you use the same password elsewhere.
In case you have become a victim of fraud, for example if you have lost money or passed on personal details, it is important to report it to the local police. In addition, contact your bank immediately or call Card Stop on 078 170 170 to block any fraudulent transactions.
